"Sci-ing" Italian Alps Style

This weekend was crazy fun! On Friday, being Americans, we searched out a Mexican restaurant in Verona and went to their all you can eat buffet. I got a peach margarita and it was amazing (and strong) but the food was even better. Who would’ve thought Italy would have such a cultured food selection? We ended with a pitcher of sangria, which was just the cherry on top of our dinner.

Saturday we got up bright and early to head to San Valentino to ski -- or as they say in Italian, sci -- on the Italian Alps! The drive up the mountains was the coolest thing ever. It was a winding road and we had some close calls when driving up the narrow roads with a coach bus. But it made the ride very excitable. Getting to the top was breath taking. You could see for miles and the fact we were on top of the mountain was super cool. A definiate change to the exciting corn fields in Illinois…

I hadn’t skied in years, so I started out with the group for a lesson. Our instructor, John Paulo or JP was the coolest guy ever. Im sure he had a blast watching all of us fall down the bunny hill.. and up the ramp. But I quickly got the hang of it and eventually made it up higher on the hill. I proud to say I only fell once! The day went by so quickly and before I knew it, we were heading back to Verona. It was such a fun activity and quite the experience too!

On Sunday we went to a soccer game! It was pretty awesome to go to a professional game since I had never been to one. It reminding me a lot a football game but the fans were super rowdy. It was the craziest thing to watch. We sort of took the long way to the stadium (and by long I mean we got lost), so we only caught the second half, but I saw the only goal that Verona made! Sadly, Hellas lost to Roma, but it was a beautiful day to catch the game and hang out with some avid soccer fans right here in the city.

It was quite the weekend, I ended it by Skyping my Mom, Dad and Grandma and it was so nice to see their faces and talk to them as well! I am missing home a bit especially after talking with family, but I know this opportunity is going to be one for the books and something I will never forget! There will be more stories to come this next weekend as I make my way to Berlin, Germany with a group of girl from the program. YAY!
